JDK's Favorite Albums of 2012 (Extremely Short Edition)

Continuing my trend of pushing out a list before the other sites do so I can't be, like, accused of following P4K too closely. But, hell, this, like most other music lists (and muxes) might as well be curated by them.

And if something awesome comes out in December, I'm sure it'll be on my giant write-up, complete with those lovely little graphics of the album art (that take forever to insert, but whatever).

The ordered list
  1. Cloud Nothings - Attack On Memory
  2. Flying Lotus - Until The Quiet Comes
  3. Japandroids - Celebration Rock
  4. Chromatics - Kill For Love
  5. Sleigh Bells - Reign of Terror
The unordered list
  • Bear In Heaven - I Love You, It's Cool
  • Hot Chip - In Our Heads
  • Liars - WIXIW
  • Lotus Plaza - Spooky Action At A Distance
  • The Men - Open Your Heart
  • Titus Andronicus - Local Business
  • Ty Segall & White Fence - Hair
  • Ty Segall Band - Slaughterhouse
  • Wiping Out Thousands - This Came First
You can download Wiping Out Thousands' This Came First at their Bandcamp page as a pay-what-you-want download. (And yes, that includes $0.) Favorite songs of the year (limiting two songs per band)
  • Chromatics - Into The Black
  • Chromatics - Lady
  • Cloud Nothings - Wasted Days
  • Cloud Nothings - Cut You
  • Divine Fits - Shivers

Upcoming albums in 2012

Been meaning to write something up like this. Am I missing anything? What do you want to hear?

Also: While I might not totally love some of these bands (like Best Coast) or their recent output isn't great (Bloc Party, Weezer), I'm willing to give them another chance; even if they have squandered past chances (Weezer) or seem incapable of making a record that sounds like their best stuff (Weezer, as in Pinkerton, which, shit, is a Weezer black sheep already and will never be creepily repeated).

I'm also too lazy to track down the titles and release dates of 100% confirmed records, like Sleigh Bells' Reign of Terror, which has probably already leaked but my ears are currently too full.

Confirmed / In the studio

Bear In Heaven
Best Coast
Bloc Party (holding out hope it's at least a third as good as Silent Alarm)
Dirty Projectors
Flying Lotus (he's playing his new LP at Coachella)
Japandroids
The Knife
Sleigh Bells
Titus Andronicus
Ty Segall (two LPs!)
The xx

Inevitable

Boris
Los Compesinos!
Weezer / Rivers Cuomo (which always has at least one semi-good song)
The Thermals

Overdue

Aesop Rock
Annie
Burial
Dan Deacon
Deerhunter
Franz Ferdinand (and I'm apparently the only guy who still likes them)
Fuck Buttons
Health (way overdue given their usual pace)
Lightning Bolt
Metric
Modest Mouse
No Age
Phoenix
A Place To Bury Strangers (an LP even though their recent EP is good)
Tortoise
Why?
Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Wishlist (e.g. not yet overdue or probably not going to happen)

The Beach Boys (even though it will most likely be Eh)
Boards of Canada
Crystal Castles (I impossibly want a shoegaze album a la "Tell Me What To Swallow")
Daft Punk
Death From Above 1979 (not sure what it'd  be, since their only LP is the best breakup album ever)
Fang Island
Four Tet
Free Energy
Frightened Rabbit
Hot Chip
Jay Reatard rarities
The Joggers
Justin Timberlake (who doesn't seem to care about making music ever again)
Liars
Marnie Stern
The National
Pavement
Portishead
Spoon
Thom Yorke - DJ-Kicks ('cause, shit, he's been on the decks at FlyLo's digs in LA many a time)

Cockteases (e.g. too many broken promises)

The Avalanches
The Microphones (and yes, I know PE is Mount Eerie, but he released something as The Microphones recently-ish)
My Bloody Valentine / Kevin Shields
