Mux203: Mr. Mux, A Rock, And A Hard Place

Before I even say anything, I have to admit a fault in my otherwise-faultless professionalism: It seems that there's a problem with every single file of "What I Like About You" on P2P. Let's just pretend the massive, listening-wrecking blip at 7:03 isn't there and that the track itself doesn't sound so crispy.

Otherwise: Download or stream.

Download or stream. The choice is yours.

PSA: Yes, the opening Ryan Adams track sounds like radio quality. I thought I downloaded a bad web rip, but then I got the album legit on Amazon and, lo and behold, it still sounds like that. So apparently he doesn't care that it sounds fairly shitty. Good song, though.

*Begrudgingly putting this on, since I think The xx and Jamie xx are hideously overrated.

Mux172: June 2015

Mux117: One Last Winter

Boom.

Boring tech note: The last three tracks were originally all very low-volume, so I boosted them until they started to distort. So apologies that you'll have to ride the levels at the end.

Another grab bag. Started as a clearinghouse but turned out rather nice. So says the man who sequenced it.

1. Ty Segall - Thank God For Sinners (Twins)
2. Divine Fits - Would That Not Be Nice? (A Thing Called Divine Fits)
3. Enon - Pigeneration (Grass Geysers Carbon Clouds)
4. LCD Soundsystem - Movement (LCD Soundsystem)

JDK's Favorite Albums of 2012 (Extremely Short Edition)

Continuing my trend of pushing out a list before the other sites do so I can't be, like, accused of following P4K too closely. But, hell, this, like most other music lists (and muxes) might as well be curated by them.

And if something awesome comes out in December, I'm sure it'll be on my giant write-up, complete with those lovely little graphics of the album art (that take forever to insert, but whatever).

The ordered list

1. Cloud Nothings - Attack On Memory

2. Flying Lotus - Until The Quiet Comes

3. Japandroids - Celebration Rock

Mux108: September 2012

Update (2017.03.26): The file has been reuploaded and the link restored.

A little more chill than recent. Or maybe I'm completely mentally inventing that idea.

Download or stream.

1. Cadence Weapon - Conditioning (Hope In Dirt City)
2. Hot Chip - These Chains (In Our Heads)
3. Bear In Heaven - Cool Light (I Love You, It's Cool)
4. Matthew Dear - I Can't Feel (Black City)
5. Liars - A Ring On Every Finger (WIXIW)
6. Radiohead - In Limbo (Kid A)
7. Flying Lotus - MmmHmm (Cosmogramma)
8. Thundercat - For Love I Come (The Golden Age of Apocalypse)
9. Frankie Rose - The Fall (Interstellar)
10. Kurt Vile - On Tour (Smoke Ring For My Halo)

And yes, "MmmHmm" samples lyrics from "For Love I Come." I think it's a nice cosmic pairing. No clue whether that pun was or was not intentional.

Rookies:
Cadence Weapon
Matthew Dear
Thundercat

9. Liars - Brats (WIXIW)

TRT: 38:21

Rookies:
Grimes

Mux104: July 2012

Obligatory OCD comment about how the volume is a little variable in spots since, for whatever reason, Liars master their stuff really, really low. Had the same problems with Sisterworld.

Also: Semi-random first appearance of a song from a soundtrack (that isn't from Guitar Hero or Rock Band). I've been way into TRON Legacy lately (like, uh, watching it five times in four days), so we'll probably get some Daft Punk love on an upcoming mux from one of the more electro tracks on the fine soundtrack of that very-underrated film.

Boom.

1. Liars - The Exact Colour of Doubt (WIXIW)
2. Sonic Youth - Dirty Boots (Goo)
3. Why? - Crushed Bones (Elephant Eyelash)
4. Joy Division - She's Lost Control (Unknown Pleasures version)
5. Hot Chip - Flutes (In Our Heads)
6. Deerhunter - Heatherwood (Daytrotter Session)
7. Lotus Plaza - Monoliths (Spooky Action At A Distance)
8. Japandroids - The House That Heaven Built (Celebration Rock)
9. Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx - Nightcall (Drive soundtrack)

TRT 39:09

Rookies:

Mux099: The Precipice

Whoabuddy: 99 muxes! Nothing too special planned for 100. Special, but not too special.

99 and counting...

1. Maximo Park - Signal And Sign (A Certain Trigger)
2. The Men - Please Don't Go Away (Open Your Heart)
3. Cloud Nothings - Fall In (Attack On Memory)
4. Real Estate - Wonder Years (Days)
5. Sonic Youth - Reena (Rather Ripped)
6. Sleigh Bells - End of the Line (Reign of Terror)
7. Wiping Out Thousands - Mass Nerve (Single)*
8. Crystal Castles - Suffocation (HEALTH Remix) (Crystal Castles 2 remixes)
9. Hot Chip - Look After Me (The Warning)
10. James Blake - Lindisfarne I/II (James Blake) (yeah, I cheated a bit)
11. Lotus Plaza - Strangers (Spooky Action At A Distance)
12. PJ Harvey - Rid of Me (Rid of Me)

Apologies that the last track is a bit low. For whatever reason, I can only find really low-volume rips, and the wonder that is GarageBand only lets me kick it up 6 dB. So adjust accordingly, though the song exists on two disparate ends of the dynamics spectrum.

Rookies:
Lotus Plaza
Maximo Park
PJ Harvey

*Wiping Out Thousands is local MPLS electro. Full disclosure: Yes, I know their names and they know mine, though in a pinch I'm usually called "Tall Guy." You can get all their music for free at this here location. And if you happen to reside in the greater MPLS area, follow them @wot_thoughts to get details on their next show. Definitely worth your while. If nothing else, the live guitar is quite spectacular. Maybe one day I will be their live drummer. But shh, don't tell them that.

Mux097: Iced Out

Available via some Droppable Box.

Somehow kinda really quiet. Probably because I had to take the A Place To Bury Strangers track way down and the Sonic Youth track way up.

1. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero (It's Blitz!)
2. YACHT - Beam Me Up (Shangri-La)
3. Hot Chip - Over And Over (The Warning)
4. Sleigh Bells - Crush (Reign of Terror)

6. A Place To Bury Strangers - I Lost You (Onwards To The Wall EP)
7. Sonic Youth - Wish Fulfillment (Dirty)
8. The National - Think You Can Wait (Single)
9. Frankie Rose - Apples For The Sun (partial edit) (Interstellar)
10. Wiping Out Thousands - Closer (Reaction Machine EP)*
11. Phantogram - 16 Years (Nightlife EP)

Wiping Out Thousands

Wiping Out Thousands is a Minneapolis duo. No, they aren't on here simply by dint of their locality; it's because I really dig their Reaction Machine EP, which you can get completely free at their bandcamp page.

Mux094: February 2012

Dropped in the Box.

Yeah yeah yeah, strange that, for all my gushing over Cloud Nothings there's none of Attack On Memory here. Not a huge secret, but I compile the tracklists pretty much the moment I finish one Mux, and I spend about two weeks piecing it together and swapping stuff out. So I already had the tracks before CN's album came out. This one is long enough as it is, so I took off the grafted-on "Wasted Days" finale since that beast runs nine minutes.

1. Superchunk - Digging For Something (Majesty Shredding)
2. Rilo Kiley - Portions For Foxes (More Adventurous / Rock Band 3)
3. Midlake - Roscoe (The Trials of Van Occupanther)
4. Weekend - The One You Want (Red EP)
5. Junior Boys - In The Morning (So This Is Goodbye)
6. Four Tet - You Could Ruin My Day (Pause)
7. Hot Chip - The Warning (The Warning)
8. John Mayer - Kid A (Radiohead cover) (Bigger Than My Body single)
9. Fucked Up - Ship of Fools (David Comes To Life)
10. Deerhunter - Strange Lights (Cryptograms)

TRT 42:59.
