Another semi-noisy mux

How this turned into a mixtape blog, I'll never be certain. But lo! Another mix/mux/whatever that warrants my standard preface: it starts out a bit noisy, but it smooths out into less in-the-red rock by the time "Lithium" hits. Thus, the tracklist:
  1. A Place to Bury Strangers - Missing You
  2. Jay Reatard - My Shadow
  3. No Age - Sleeper Hold
  4. Vivian Girls - Tell the World
  5. Nirvana - Lithium
  6. Stephen Malkmus - Baltimore
  7. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Details of the War
  8. Brendan Canning (Broken Social Scene) - Antique Bull
  9. Deerhunter - Nothing Ever Happened
  10. Les Savy Fav - Scotchgard the Credit Card
  11. David Holmes - Holy Pictures
  12. Liars - The Other Side of Mt. Heart Attack
Speaking of Deerhunter, I'm really into their LP Microcastle. Considering, of course, that I was really lukewarm on Cryptograms and their Fluorescent Grey EP, and that I think Bradford Cox should get his blogging rights revoked. Also, Atlas Sound was a bit too out there for me, or maybe I didn't want to hear a bedroom-rock record about Cox just talking about Oh So Horrible his teenage years were. But Microcastle digs in with some solid rock hooks, as evidenced on the jammy "Nothing Ever Happened," and outside of the fits-well-with-the-album-but-slow-on-its-own mellow middle, Microcastle has many solid tracks worthy of getting it on MPC's prestigious year-end best-of list. Dare I even hint that it might be tied with No Age for my favorite rock record of the year?

Oh, right, film update: Finishing up my master schedule today, then rehearsing, shooting inserts and cutaways, and creating some props before I shoot from Saturday through Thursday. I hope my camera holds out, and I hope my arriving-tomorrow deck works in the way I expect it to work.

October Mux

Muxtape, as once known, is dead, but dammit, I'm still calling them muxtapes, and here's one to start off October:
  1. David Holmes - I Heard Wonders
  2. Weezer - No One Else
  3. Brendan Canning (Broken Social Scene) - Churches Under the Stairs
  4. King Khan and the Shrines - Outta Harm's Way
  5. Vivian Girls - Where Do You Run To?
  6. Radiohead - Weird Fishes/Arpeggi
  7. Do Make Say Think - In Mind
  8. Oxford Collapse - B-Roll
  9. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - In This Home On Ice
  10. The National - Guest Room
  11. Wolf Parade - An Animal In Your Care
  12. Born Ruffians - Red Elephant
Hey, a Vivian Girls track! See? I'm a Pitchfork reader hipster! So what if, a month from now, I'll probably hate that album? It sounds kind of cool now!

Obligatory film update: Shot parts one and two, so shooting is officially 2/9th done. An awkward fraction, yeah, but at least I know there's 7/9th left. More work in less time, but it can be done. If worst comes to worst, I end up behind schedule and release in March instead of February.

Scratch that, the worst that could happen is breaking my camera. Or a leg. Or both. At the same time.

But this is just shooting. There will be a lot of post, but I like post better than shooting. Compared to all my past projects, though, this shoot is relatively painless. Just tiring. And a constant learning process/experience.

Also: On a semi-whim, I bought a custom shirt for $70 for my character to wear in a very low number of scenes. Probably just about six shots. I'll definitely wear the shirt once the film wraps, but it's kind of scary knowing that, excluding my iMac, $70 is a fourth of what I've already spent on this film. Probably only about $200 left to spend after that, and half of that is for DV tapes. And to think that low-budget films still cost over a million. This is no-budget filmmaking. But I wouldn't have it any other way, really.

Unless I got paid to do this.
