Digging into the vault with some older cuts by Caribou, !!!, Boards of Canada, and Radiohead. Some new and newish stuff as well. And after last mux's briefness, this one hits 58:46, but that's mostly because of a nine-minute closer. Well, it can't be nearly as bad as that time I put Fucked Up's 22-minute "ONNO" on a mux.

Mux179: Mr. Mux Strikes Back

Download.

I've broken my rule of not having the same band on two consecutive muxes. Well, doubly accidental that Battles has been on three muxes in a row, but "FF Bada" is quickly becoming one of my favorite Battles tracks. Also considering "The Yabba," La Di Da Di is pretty much a lock for my shortlist for my favorite albums of the year. It'll definitely be great to hear the studio version of the album in a week or two before I see them live in early October. Hoping to see some familiar faces at First Ave. who will front-row-it with me.

1. The Black Keys - Bullet In The Brain (Turn Blue)
2. Destroyer - Dream Lover (Poison Season)
3. Titus Andronicus - Come On, Siobhan (The Most Lamentable Tragedy)
4. Cymbals Eat Guitars - LifeNet (LOSE)
5. Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Can't Keep Checking My Phone (Multi-Love)
6. Brian Eno & Kyle Hyde - Cells & Bells (High Life)
7. Ought - Habit (More Than Any Other Day)
8. Built To Spill - So (Untethered Moon)

POST-DAMAGE CONTROL: Everything is fine now. Just a little malfunction related to inattention. But everything's fine now. We're all fine here... how are you?

DAMAGE CONTROL: Okay, I totally fucked up the ending. I had to jump through hoops to take off the end of the Donnie Trumpet song that I forgot to align the start so that it wouldn't overlook with "Soft Revolution." Fixing...

I had to make this in Audacity on my laptop, and given that I had to check online to figure out how to do pretty much everything, there might be some jank in this. If that's the case, I'll just remake it on my iMac sometime between now and 2018.

Well, given that zero of you didn't even bother guessing the titles based on antonyms, I wasn't even going to make this until at least one person asked nicely. But no one did. So here you go, ungrateful jerks. Enjoy these while they last. I thought I would've been threatened with a lawsuit long before I stopped giving a shit.

I also don't have my email list with me, so get used to checking my Twitter (@JDKworks) around the 1st and 15th for the link.

I'm far too lazy to find all the separate muxes, but Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience Vol. 1 is the third album to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Said Hall is reserved for those rarest of albums in which all tracks miraculously find their way onto a mux. The first winner of such acclaim was Japandroids for their 2009 album Post-Nothing, followed by Cloud Nothing's Attack On Memory in 2012. Truly, no higher honor can be bestowed upon an album that is slowly-but-surely cannibalized by a seven-years-running, blog-based mixtape series.

Tapes by JET Vol. 001: Goldfinch

Sometimes I get sick of myself. And, hey, maybe you do as well. It's okay. Really. We're all adults here.

With that in mind, for a while I've wanted to invite one of my musically-inclined friends to curate a guest mixtape. The catch is that I wanted to use my (current) mux rules: 12 tracks, no repeated bands, a TRT somewhere around 45 minutes, and, most importantly, some killer music in a great sequence.

Wait no more, dear reader(s). My Minneapolis-based friend, JET - who clearly possesses better initials than everyone and who is an excellent sparring partner vis a vis music - decided to tackle this challenge. The result is Tapes by JET, which I hope to make a regular feature; she picks the tracks and sequence, and I just mix it together for a very JDK-free experience. It's a nice counterpoint to my own far-flung musical tastes. Case in point, JET has no fear to include a Taylor Swift song on this first mix, whereas I pre-emptively apologize anytime I feature a song sung by a girl.

Enough from me. Download Tapes by JET Vol. 001: Goldfinch. She also makes bitchin' album art. (Did I just say "bitchin'"?)
