Digging into the vault with some older cuts by Caribou, !!!, Boards of Canada, and Radiohead. Some new and newish stuff as well. And after last mux's briefness, this one hits 58:46, but that's mostly because of a nine-minute closer. Well, it can't be nearly as bad as that time I put Fucked Up's 22-minute "ONNO" on a mux.

Mux134: November 2013

And just on the day I was about to start my always-far-too-long-to-finish-on-time-unless-I-start-in-October yearly music roundup, an Arcade Fire album comes out. So if nothing else, there's none of that here, since I, you know, usually make these about a week in advance. And my hope-it-proves-me-wrong first-listen of Reflecktor had me thinking, "Eh."

And why the hell is the mastering so low?

Boom.

Mux132: Portland Part 3

Three Portland trips in less than a year. Better be the last before the longest-delayed move ever.

It also justifies the rather obvious addition of the bonus track.

Mux131: September 2013

A bit of a schizomix, but isn't it always?

Boom.

Also, I will not apologize for my inclusion of "Mirrors." If you're sick to death of it from listening to the radio, well, you shouldn't be listening to the radio anyway, and the radio edit is awful. I've got the full 8:06 cut with JT's extended I Love You Jessica Biel part at the end.

New(ish) 2013 music: Boards of Canada, Daft Punk, Deerhunter, The Men, Thundercat

Mux128: Something Something Summer

Basically a semi-Back To Rock mux. Some new, some old, e.g. the usual. I'd also like to take a moment to state that !!!'s THR!!!ER, annoying title aside, is one of the most criminally underrated albums of the year.

Boom.

1. Radiohead - Packt Like Sardines In A Crushd Tin Box (Amnesiac)
2. !!! - Even When The Water's Cold (THR!!!ER)
3. Controller.Controller - Magnetic Strip (X-Amounts)

TRT 47:11

Rookies: Zwan

New(ish) music from 2013 albums: Baths, Chromatics, Foals, Marnie Stern, Vampire Weekend

Mux124: The Mux With No Name

Starts pretty coherent and then veers off into randomness. But isn't that every mux? I also need to note that the ten-minute Frank Ocean closer is included primarily because 1:12 to 1:29 is the best seventeen seconds of music I've heard in quite some time. I just want to loop that and watch Tron: Legacy.

Boom.

1. !!! - Station (Meet Me At The) (THR!!!ER)

JDK Radio 008: 2004

2004 was a watershed year in music. For me, at least. And there was, like every year, some truly fantastic albums. It was, however, when I moved to Columbia's dorms in Chicago that it became almost necessary to like "cool" music. And with everyone tethered to the same network and able to rip whole iTunes libraries, I ended up amassing quite a collection.

At the time it seems almost baffling that my most-used item for music-listening was a CD player. A portable one, at that, that I shoved into my pocket when walking to class. And yeah, some fancy kids had iPods (like my roommate), but I figured I never needed more than an hour and twenty minutes of music, and that all (single) albums don't exceed the limits of a physical CD. Also at the time I had my files organized in folders for ease of use in creating Winamp play lists, so iTunes lost its ease-of-use sex appeal.

It wasn't until a full year later that I got an iPod and begrudgingly substituted the lean Winamp for the system-resource-intensive iTunes. But by that point my primary CD player broke and I had to use another that didn't have as good a skip-protection feature, meaning that a ten-minute walk to class usually involved only one New Pornographers song stuttering all the way down State Street.

Call me a nostalgia fiend for an era barely five years ago, but JDK Radio 008 is dedicated to music from the year 2004, which, to me, was my first bonafide Year of Music.
